After obtaining a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Pisa, Bonannini began his Telecom Italia career at the Scuola Superiore Guglielmo Reiss Romoli, where he focused primarily on “high data transmission over copper pair” before joining the R&D team at Marconi S.p.A, working on the development of the ATM transmission system.
Bonannini returned to Telecom in 1998 as a Network Development Engineer with the central Telecom Italia Mobile, where he was responsible for matters relating to interconnection.
After the liberalisation of the telecommunications market, he served as Technical Director with the start-up Nodalis S.p.A. During this period, he also worked as an assessor for the EU’s “e-ten” project.
Bonannini joined Interoute S.p.A. as Wholesale Director in 2004, focusing on business development and regulatory matters. In 2010, he became the CEO. During this period, his focus was on the development of the Italian and wider Mediterranean markets. His responsibilities were extended in 2016, when he was appointed VP Southern Europe, CEE and MEA.
In recent years, Bonannini has contributed to the debate on ultra-broadband networks in Italy by participating in work groups.
