Another 3,700 cities have been reached by the ultra-high broadband with the second Infratel’s tender.
Open Fiber and Infratel signed the concession contract of the second Infratel’s tender for the realisation of an ultra broadband network in the white areas of the country, also known as “market failure areas”, covering 3,700 municipalities in the following Regions: Basilicata, Campania, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Marche, Piedmont, Autonomous Province of Trento, Sicily, Umbria and Valle d’Aosta.

The tender required the coverage of 4.7 million building units, broken down as followed:
- 1.1 million with a connection that can ensure at least over 100 megabit/s in download and 50 megabit/s in upload;
- 2.8 million building units over 30 megabit/s and 15 megabit/s in upload;
- 800,000 optional building units with a connection over 30 megabit/s and 15 megabit/s in upload.
Open Fiber obtained all six lots, undertaking to connect 3.5 million building units at the maximum speed with FTTH technology, capable of providing high speed to up to 1 Gigabit/s, while the remaining building units will be covered with radio fixed wireless technology.
