The joint initiative sponsored by leaders Open Fiber and Wind Tre aims to carry out the “5G City” project, to provide innovative services with a strong impact in terms of social and economic utility.
Both Open Fiber and Wind Tre are committed to two important infrastructural projects for ultra broadband in the country. Open Fiber is building an extremely dense and widespread optical fiber network, future-proof, based on modern, open, efficient, technologically neutral, NGA native architecture. Wind Tre is currently working on a project to integrate and modernise the mobile radio network, which, when complete, will lead to the creation of a vast, dense network throughout Italy operating with 2G, 3G, 4G and 4.5G technologies.
Both projects are synergistic to the development of 5G networks, which call for the densification of radio sites, in order to enable services with very high capacity and/or very low latency, able to manage a very high number of devices.
Together with Open Fiber and Wind Tre, other entities with diverse and complementary experiences will participate in the project, providing their resources and skills, with the common goal of creating the “5G city”.
5G enables new business models by allowing diverse entities from different sectors to work together, in order to develop new types of services to improve quality of life.
This is why the group includes partners from the world of industry, from universities, research centres, small and medium enterprises, local public administration, institutions and final users, all with the goal of creating the 5G ecosystem.
Specifically, some members of the partnership led by Open Fiber and Wind Tre are: telecommunications operators, network apparatus suppliers, vertical sector enables, suppliers of drones, sensors, IoT solutions, MVNO operators and universities, for a total of 21 participants
