1 Giga Italy Plan work progress
1 Giga Italy Plan: details on the progress of work for the spread of FTTH fiber optics in the country’s inland areas.
Within the scope of the 1 Giga Italy Plan, the government has issued calls for tenders to provide public support for the creation of an ultra-fast network. Open Fiber was awarded 8 of the lots, involving 3,881 municipalities in 9 regions.
As of 31 January 2026:
- 34,900 km of infrastructure have been built. The kilometers of network represent the infrastructure development (construction, excavation, reuse, cable laying, etc.) necessary for the network’s creation.
- 1.112 million street number have been connected via FTTH and 137,000 via FWA.
- Works have been completed in 873 FTTH municipalities (with Network Plant Completion Certificates – CUIR).
- 1.544 million Premises Passed (FTTH+FWA) have been released for sale. These premises are included in the serviceability databases reserved for Open Fiber’s Partner Operators, who can then activate services upon request from end users.
