Activation process
Open Fiber is a wholesale operator that builds ultra-broadband infrastructure and deploys dark fibre networks to serve individuals, professionals, and businesses of all sizes.
Once the cabling process is completed, network activation takes place through one of the Partner Operators with access to our infrastructure.
Fibre optics provides an ultra broadband connection. In a nutshell: fast, stable and safe, for all your activities. To activate the FTTH network, all you need to do is follow 5 simple steps.
Five steps to activate your fibre optic connection
First, check whether your address is covered by Open Fiber‘s FTTH network. Go to this page to check your coverage.
If we haven’t reached you yet, don’t worry: we are working to bring our cutting-edge infrastructure to the White and Gray Areas of the country.
If coverage is already available, you can move on to the next step.
Open Fiber makes its network available to many Operator Partners (check out our Partners).
Compare the available offers in your area, paying close attention to the connection type indicated on the service label:
- FTTH (Fibre To The Home): fibre to the home, marked with the green ‘F’ label.
- FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet): fibre to the street cabinet, marked with the yellow ‘F/R’ label.
After selecting your operator, sign the service contract: the operator will send Open Fiber an Activation Request, containing all the necessary information to schedule the technical installation.
At that point, Open Fiber:
- reserves the network resources
- contacts the customer by phone (using a visible landline number)
- agrees on the date and time slot for the appointment.
The technical installation takes around 2-3 hours, from the time the technician arrives at your home.
Here is what happens during the process:
- 1. Check of the external connection between the building and the Open Fiber network
- 2. Routing the fibre optic cable inside your home through existing conduits
- 3. Installation of the optical termination outlet (a small white box similar to a thermostat), fixed to the wall in an accessible spot agreed with the customer
- 4. Connection of the customer’s modem/router to the outlet using a fibre patch cord
- 5. Line testing with specialised equipment, carried out in coordination with the Open Fiber Service Operations Center (SOC)
- 6. Final speed test to verify performance and complete the activation
Once testing is completed, your connection is active: you can start browsing at speeds of at least 1 Gigabit per second , powered by Open Fiber’s FTTH network.
Connect your devices, enjoy ultra-fast performance and start a new digital experience without interruption.
