Infrastructure and transport services

With Open Fiber, Operators can choose from complete passive and active services to build their own network infrastructure and deliver advanced connectivity services.

Thanks to the widespread network and the modular approach of the services offered, it is possible to design custom solutions for both urban and rural areas.

Passive services

Open Fiber offers Advanced Passive Solutions that allow Operators to integrate, extend, or design their own networks independently and strategically. From dedicated microducts for fibre optic on intermunicipal routes to connections for network nodes, each service is designed to ensure ultra-fast and efficient infrastructure.

Microducts

The service grants the Operator the exclusive right to use a microduct, where available, within Open Fiber’s network infrastructure routes.

The microduct can be used by the Operator to lay and install their own fibre optic cables for delivering electronic communication services to third parties.

Usage rights can be granted both for Local Laying Infrastructure (on public land) and for Backhaul Routes.

Dark Fiber – Long Distance

The P2P Dark Fibre Long Distance service provides a pair of point-to-point fibre optics, typically over long-distance routes connecting two Open Fiber’s PoPs (Points of Presence) located in different municipalities.

The service termination point is at an Open Fiber’s PoP and corresponds to the optical connectors where the fibres arrive, installed in a dedicated optical switch tray.

Passive Operator Node

Upon request, Open Fiber designs and provides, upon request, Point-to-Point (P2P) optical connections for linking Operator Nodes. With its P2P Connection service, Open Fiber enables Operators to offer connectivity services for Nodes, via a dedicated pair of fibres.

For new requests, Open Fiber carries out a Feasibility Study and, if successful, presents the Operator with a commercial offer, including any extraordinary charges for establishing the connection.

Active services

The Open Fiber Active Services support Operators in expanding their networks and providing advanced connectivity. These solutions stand out for their high reliability, efficiency, and the use of cutting-edge technologies. Optical transport between PoPs and dedicated connections between Nodes ensure solutions that meet the demands of modern, fast networks.

Wavelength Service

The Wavelength (WL) service provides a dedicated PoP-to-PoP connection based on OTN (Optical Transport Network) technology. This solution allows the Operator to benefit from highly performing optical connectivity, with advantages over traditional WDM networks, including:

  • Greater efficiency in optical spectrum usage
  • Higher resilience
  • Flexibility
  • Enhanced security

The WL service is available across Open Fiber’s national network and can be provided between any pair of PoPs.

Active Operator Node

Similar to the passive version, the Active Operator Node service involves the creation of point-to-point optical links for connecting Operator Node. Open Fiber handles the design, installation, and activation of the connections, allowing the Operator to offer connectivity to Nodes via a dedicated fibre pair.

Again, a preliminary Feasibility Study is carried out, followed – if successful – by a detailed commercial proposal.
